Rama: “Cooperation with DP for electoral reform. Their requests are legitimate”

The Socialist Party gathered for the first time its parliamentary group
at the Parliament’s offices, exactly in the room where Lulzim Basha and
Edi Rama decided for the May 18th agreement.

This time, the Socialist leader spoke about the judiciary reform, considering the requests of the Democratic Party as legitimate, a party that Rama called the main opposition with which they would reach an agreement for the electoral reform.

“The Socialist Party has the good will to start a discussion and improve the judiciary process. Based on a new concept of the government-opposition relation, we welcome the Democratic Party to a true and realistic dialogue about the electoral process. But we want to create a clear framework, together with the Democratic Party, about the cooperation of the majority with parliamentary opposition. Of course, this doesn’t exclude the other opposition. It integrates it. But the dialogue base will be between the SP and DP”, Rama said.

One topic that created debates was the budget for new Vetting Institutions. Saimir Tahiri and Erion Brace were both against the government’s decision to pay Vetting Commissioners three times less than what they had asked and with a smaller staff.

Prime Minister Edi Rama said that it is not about the number of employees, but it is about restructuring an institution properly, so it can give maximal results.

“For such an important process not only we will not spare government sources, but we will also do everything necessary”, Rama declared.

Erjon Brace said that the financial decision was exaggerated. But that wasn’t the only problem.

“Such decisions in the future should be discussed first at the Commission of Finances and Economy”, Brace said.

Saimir Tahiri, former Minister of Interior, said that two of these institutions had declared that they cannot do their duty with that budget.

“If they say this today, what will they tell us tomorrow? Maybe the Ministry of Finances and we should be more flexible on this”, he declared.

Arben Ahmetaj, current Minister of Finances, invited Saimir Tahiri to have a detailed look to the structure.

“This way he will be calm and we will have maximal financial support of the infrastructure”, the Minister declared.
