Croation sport commentator apologized for phrase about Albanians

A well known Croatian sport commentator, Stjepan Balog, was forced to apologize after a mentioning of Albanians in his article.
He says he received many angry messages, although his context was not to offend the Albanian people.
“I apologize and my phrase did not mean to influence the good friendship between our people. I know Albanians have also helped for Croatia’s freedom”, Stjepan said.
During the match between the Albanian team “Skenderbeu” and the Croatian “Zagreb Dynamo”, when the Albanian team led 1-0, Balon said that “the time when Albanians were just ice-cream sellers is over. Now they can also play good football”.
Many Croatian sport media also criticized the comment, saying that it’s the same as a British commentator says time when Croatians were waiters and hotel cleaners is over.
The Croatian commentator apologized and said it was just a misunderstanding of his intentions.
