A medieval well, 17 deep, was found at the floor of a central building in Gjirokaster.

Kastriot Dhrami, who administers the building for selling souvenirs, decided to make some improvements in the building, but the workers revealed the well.

Dhrami says old people used to speak about the existence of the well. Now that it is revealed, it will have lights shining inside and it will be an added value to the city.

The well was built more than 300 years ago and it has already started attracting visitors. Residents say there are at least seven other wells around the city, which were connected with a sophisticated system, tied to the Ali Pasha aqueduct. But this has not been proven yet.
