High temperatures this summer have caused many fire emergencies around the country, but how efficient are our firefighters?

In many cases, firefighters are the last one to arrive on the scene, since many municipalities don’t even have a fire department, although they are bound by law to establish them before December 2018.

Altin Toska, Mayor of the Cerrik Municipality, says that the 186 square kilometers of their area cannot be covered with their current capabilities. “And our abilities to establish a fire department are impossible, zero”, he added.

Arif Tafani, Mayor of the Belesh Municipality, said it is impossible for them to build and keep a fire department, because the lack of funds.

Even the existing fire departments are very old, requiring large amounts of money to be repaired, which municipalities also don’t have.

“This department has five fire trucks, dating 1975. Our firefighters lack of their basic materials”, says the Mayor of Elbasan, Qazim Sejdini.
