Albania is experiencing another good tourist season.
The Institution of Statistics reported that the number of foreign citizens who entered Albania for holidays increased with 2.4 times the first semester of the year.
According to INSTAT, the number of foreign tourists for the January-June period jumped at 562.000, from 230.000 that it was for the same period of the last year.
Detailed statistics show that 195.000 entered the country only during the tourist season.
The Bank of Albania stated that the economy earned 1.5 billion EUR from tourism during 2016, 15% of the GDP, and that revenues from tourism increased with 6.4% in annual terms, reaching a total of 301.5 million EUR.
Tourism was one of the sectors that was hit hardest by the financial crises, but this tendency changed during the past three years.
The end of the Eurozone crisis and the increased interest for Albania in the global market has increased financial profits for the economy, turning tourism into a leading sector of economic growth.
