Naske Afezolli is one of the two persons who stand behind the idea of
the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which will bring natural gas from
Azerbaijan to Western Europe.

He has been working and living in Switzerland for the past years, to one of the main energy companies, “EGL”, which is also one of the main shareholders for TAP.

Afezolli has some regrets for the way how the Albanian government has negotiated the agreement.

“All gas pipelines have huge profits from transit. Unfortunately, what I was dreaming for Albania after 2013, when the agreements were signed, the representatives were mobilized to not give Albania a transit fee, and Albania is not benefiting it. However, there are still huge profits, but I was expecting a more positive agreement for Albania, more gas and more exit points”, Afezolli said.

“Greece doesn’t have the right to request a transit cost, because they are EU members. Albania could have profited something”, he said.

He brings to attention another investment related to TAP, a 7 million EUR project from the Swiss government, assisting the Ministry of Energy with the infrastructure and creation of all necessary departments .

Afezolli values the interest of the Azerbaijani company “SOCAR” for building the gas distribution network in Albania, but he says that European companies should be involved as well.
