Prosecution and law-enforcing authorities watch GFI case after “Panama Papers”

After the Panama Paper scandal that was used to hide corruption,
unofficial sources from the Tirana Prosecution said they have
established a task force that is making verifications regarding the
first name that appeared on Panama Papers and that had ties to Albania.

This is the fuel marking company, GFI Technologies. Prosecutors have been ordered to follow the publication of the documents from the consortium of international journalists that are publishing the 11 million documents of Mossack Fonseca, which used to register offshore companies from the entire world.

Top Channel asked the Prosecutor General to react on this news, and his office said they are working with other law enforcing institutions to clarify the situation.

A similar engagement of Albanian authorities was seen with Wikileaks, in 2011, when cables from the US Embassy were published regarding a large number of sensitive matters, such as Damir Fazlic, the Durres-Kukes road and Gerdec.

The Prosecution General of that time had established a group of translators that would monitor and collect data for Albania. However, the case was forgotten.
