On the third anniversary of being appointed Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj accepted a great award in Barcelona for the Skanderbeg Square, issued by a international and professional jury, as the best public and urban space in Europe for 2018, a triumph among 279 other projects from 32 countries in total.

After the award received at the Chicago Biennale, one year ago, the Skanderbeg Square received the prestigious European Prize for Urban Public Spaces of 2018, issued by the Barcelona Center of Contemporary Culture and six important European architecture institutions of Europe.

The jury, led by Olga Tarraso and composed of the best international experts of architecture, voted for Skanderbeg square as a monumental and relaxing work, and as one of the most inspiring projects of this year.

Veliaj said this prize is the best reward for a great work that started since 2008, when it was first projected. This prize, according to Veliaj, honors every citizen of Tirana who believes that the change comes, and that when there is cooperation and understanding, great things can be achieved, things that receive international appraisal.
