Just a few days before the killing of the Serbian politician from Kosovo, Oliver Ivanovic, the US Embassy in Prishtina had issued a warning on their website, addressed to US citizens living and working in Kosovo.

The US Embassy advised all citizens to rethink travels to northern Kosovo due to an increased risk of terror attacks in Northern Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan.

“Terror groups are still plotting attacks throughout Balkan, including Kosovo. Terrorists may attack without a warning, places frequented by tourists, main transportation centers, malls, local government buildings, hotels, bars, restaurants, holy places, parks, major sportive or cultural events, education institutions, airports and other public places”, says the warning published by the US State Department on January 10th.

In addition, the US Embassy warned about politically motivated violence that could possibly take place in Kosovo. Tensions between communities in Northern Kosovo keep provoking acts of violence, demonstrations and turmoil in four main centres of Northern Kosovo, Leposavic, Zubin Potok, Northern Mitrovica and Zvecan.
