Tirana Outer Ring Road, great environmental damage

The 3.1 km long segment of the Tirana Outer Ring Road, which affects the
most sensible environmental part of the city, from the Botanical Garden
to Sauk, is expected to have a worse environmental impact than just the
Botanical Garden.

The segment will have two overpasses and two underpasses for the vehicles, three underpasses for the pedestrians, and many roundabouts, one of which will be near the artificial lake dam.

The environmentalists requested the reviewing of the project for this segment. According to them, it damages one of most priceless areas of the Albanian capital, such as the Park of the Artificial Lake. According to them, the project has not taken under consideration some of most important elements, such as the acoustic pollution, air pollution and the devaluation of an important area of the city, that of the Artificial Lake.

Environmentalist Sazan Guri, who prepared the environmental impact report, said that the compensation of the damages made to the Botanical Garden might be implemented in the Dajti area, near the artificial lake or in and out the remaining Botanical Garden.

At least 8000 vehicles a day are expected to drive through this motorway with 6 lanes, which is expected to create high acoustic pollution.
