Tirana Mayor in Electoral College’s hands

25/05/2011 19:55

Wednesday afternoon was extremely quiet at Court of Appeal, after a
normal working day. Casual Pedestrians pass carelessly, perhaps not
knowing that they passed in front of the building that tomorrow will
attract everyone’s attention.

At 13:00, the rapporteur of this case, judge Petraq Koço will start presenting the appeal of the Socialist Party.

The destiny of the first appeal will be in the hands of four women judges chosen by the lot. These women are Dhurata Haveri, Marie Qiriazi, Entela Prifti and Sashenka Jonuzi.

The four ladies of Albanian justice will scrutinize an appeal forwarded some days ago, when Central Election Commission had not approved the summary tables for Zonal Election Commission 49, as the law provides.

CEC approved the summary table only this Monday, with the Socialist Party opposing the process of recounting the miscast ballot boxes.

Sources say that the College is expected to give a verdict for the first appeal, leaving the two other appeals for tomorrow.

The second appeal SP addressed to this College is to declare as invalid the CEC procedure and May 18th 2011 decision, when this Commission decided to count miscast ballots.

Judges of the Electoral College are Marie Qirjazi, Entela Prifti, Meriban Mullaj and Astrit Kalaja. The chosen rapporteur is Shashenka Jonuzi.

Both candidates, one declared winner with 10 votes ahead from the vote counting process, and the other declared winner with 81 ballots ahead from the CEC decision to count miscast ballots, will hold their breath until the Electoral College will give its verdict.
