President of Albania Ilir Meta addresses the Venice Commission ‘On giving an opinion on the process of electing the members of the Constitutional Court in the Republic of Albania’.

The President of the Republic has also forwarded to the Venice Commission an extended information on the activities of the President of the Republic, the Assembly of Albania and the Justice Appointments Council (KED) in relation to this process.

Letter from President Ilir Meta:

No reflection by the Assembly on the Venice Commission’s advice!

The distorted information and self-serving questions by the Assembly are aimed at a false interpretation of the situation.

The President sent a full documented information, and a list of questions that clarify the constitutionality of the actions of each institution.

Why did the Venice Commission demanded on the constitution and law to be determined the order of appointments?

Does the disrespect for the order of appointments constitute a violation of the letter of the Constitution?

What constitutional provision provides for an institution to appoint several constitutional judges simultaneously?

The President repeatedly called for cooperation and implementation of the Constitution!

The majority refused to co-operate and fully completed its scenario.

The Assembly attempted to abduct the President’s constitutional powers in order to capture the Constitutional Court!

When the Government, Parliament, all Municipalities, City Councils and almost all independent institutions are in the hands of a single party: does the capture of the Constitutional Court serve the political interest of avoiding control and accountability?

Albania in complete imbalance of check and balance mechanisms, risks a total state capture!
