The Socialist International reacted on the latest developments in Albania, after the vote counting process for the Tirana Mayor.
After closing the counting process on May 14th, the declaration says, Edi Rama was declared the winner of the Tirana Municipality.
“The long counting process was held under the watchful eye of both parties’ commissioners, who verified the process and the summary reports were signed for 485 ballot boxes for Tirana”, says the declaration.
The Socialist International considers the act of CEC for counting the votes cast in wrong boxes as an anti-democratic action which aims to manipulate the elections result.
“Changing the initial result, is very concerning, endangering again the vote legitimacy in Albania, and also increases the tense climate in the country”, the declaration emphasizes.
