Talking about local elections, President Bamir Topi appealed for a calm and correct electoral campaign. Politicians should display their values and political platforms that benefit the citizens.

The head of state praised the local government role, underlying that it has often been underestimated by the central government.

President Topi criticized political interferences in local government competences, causing the failure of several projects.

“I appeal to all political parties for a calm election process on May 8th, because this is a key moment after a tense political situation, almost to the point of open conflict. These elections should proceed in full accordance to the laws, in order to have high citizen participation. I appeal to the citizens for a high participation in these elections. The political parties should not create a negative campaign. Let the best candidates win and I appeal to all parties to maintain a professional campaign.” Topi declared.

“The local government has an extraordinary role. This is the administrative authority most connected to the people. The local government has often been underestimated, even though central government has given them space to evolve. There has been progress, but I believe that we can help the citizens more if we implement cooperative policies with the central government.” President Bamir Topi said.
