New Parliament House, SP: Winner already chosen

Viennese journal “Wiener Zeitung” clearly indicates on its March 12th edition that the winner for the new Parliament House is the project offered by “Wolfgang Prix” studio.

Even though it is clear that the studio was already chosen, the Parliament Speaker organized a competition on which she spent at least 100.000 euros.

Socialist deputy Taulant Balla published the facts of the public expenditures.

“This is the article that mentions the “Wolfgang Prix” as the already chosen winner. Expenditures are public money thrown away. More than 50.000 euros spent on Internet voting advertisements, when the winner was already chosen.  Please add to this sum the 2 million euros spent on the “Pyramid” reconstruction and 700.000 euros spent on the existing Parliament House.” Balla declared.

The Viennese newspaper states that the construction cost of the new Parliament House will make tax payers’ pockets hundreds of millions of euros lighter. The journal also indicates that the project includes a luxury apartment for the Parliament Speaker.

Socialist Deputy Taulant Balla summed up the figures spent so far on the reconstruction of the existing “Pyramid” and existing Parliament House.

“If 2 million euros spent to reconstruct the existing Parliament House and to transform the International Cultural Center into a theater were not enough, this member of this regime will spend hundreds of millions of euros on a new Parliament building, which will include a luxury apartment for the Parliament Speaker.” Balla declared.

“Wiener Zeitung” article

Wolfgang Prix mentioned as winner on March 12th

What’s the truth behind “Weiner Zeitung” article? The last paragraph is what spurred the debate and raised doubts that the winner was already chosen on March 12th and not on March 24th.
Parliament Speaker declared of having published on the Parliament web page the original article and a version translated by her staff.

According to the Parliament Speaker, the last paragraph says: “The new modern Parliament will be built, no matter what. In Albania the politics seems to be more courageous. The architect’s name is Wolfgang Prix”.

Top Channel was able to secure a copy of this journal’s March 12 edition article, which has an ironic title: “We should be in Albania”, regarding a current Austrian debate about the government’s expenditures on the Parliament House reconstruction.
This is what last paragraph exactly states: “Tirana will have a more advanced and modern Parliament House than Vienna. The super-modern Parliament House will be built no matter what, even though politics in Albania seems to be more courageous. The architect’s name is Wolfang Prix”.

Regardless to many possible translation adoptions, the last sentence remains unchangeable and clearly indicates that the architect of the new Albanian Parliament House will be Wolfgang Prix.”

The debate on “The Pyramid” continues from months now, even though most of the architects, cultural legacy preservers, civil society activists, representatives from the academic and cultural circle and common citizens expressed their opinion against the “Pyramid” demolition, the Parliament Speaker closed the competition on March 24th.
