The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, met with the Prime Minister of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev.

Meta congratulated Zaev for the positive results on both local and central elections and greeted their concrete commitment to improve interethnic co-existence and establish positive relations with neighbors.

President Meta underlined that the relations of Albania and Macedonia are decisive and existential for the Euro-Atlantic future of both countries.

“Together we can resist and succeed with all globalization challenges that our region is facing”, Meta declared.

The Albanian President said he was hopeful that both, Albania and Macedonia, would start their accession negotiations with EU during 2018, and guaranteed Zaev for Albania’s support in Macedonia’s NATO accession.

Both leaders agreed on the need to improve commercial and economic cooperation and increase infrastructural and energy connections, especially as regards Corridor 8 projects.

Meta stated he was convinced that extraordinary results can be reached with non-extraordinary investments.

The two leaders expressed their trust that all of these matters will be addressed in the next joint government meeting that will be held in Pogradec.
