Albanian companies are increasingly employing foreign workers in a phenomenon that according to employment agencies, began in 2015 with the hiring of foreign staff in the IT, medical, fisheries or the manufacturing sector.

“The staff we bring in is from from underdeveloped, poor countries and the payroll system we have available to them. We’re not recruiting from countries in conflict, but from places with weak economy such as Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. They are paid 300-400 dollars net wages”, stated Flamur Jauri, from the private recruitment sector.

Izu and Kanath are from Nigeria and have come to work in Albania. They speak enthusiastically of the new experience.
“It’s 10 days that I’m in Tirana. I came through a European agency to work in a shipping company, but at the moment I am waiting for my residence permit. This is my first trip out of Nigeria and I notice a big difference. Everyone wants to leave for a better life, I believe I’m lucky”, stated Kanath.
