EP resolution for the decision to block negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia

After France said “no” to the EU accession negotiation for Albania and Northern Macedonia, the European Parliament has requested the approval of a resolution which notes that refusing to open the accession negotiations could destabilize the two countries and the entire region as well.

“It is regrettable that the negotiations were blocked for Albania and Northern Macedonia by France and the other countries that shared this stance”, the resolution says.

It also appeals to the Council to take responsibility and act based on the rules.

The EP resolution may change this Wednesday.

The European Parliament has no legislative powers to change the enlargement decisions, but its stances are very important, especially when the new candidates of France, Hungary and Romania are expected to be voted for the cabinet of Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission.
