Elections, SP “arrives” at Venice

The question
if the Socialist Party will address the Commission of Venice for a legal
advice, or when will this request be filed, now has an answer.

Top-Channel was able to secure information that the Socialist Party has sent four questions to the Commission of Venice regarding Tirana mayoral race. These questions were sent only a few days after CEC opened 117 boxes in a selective way, claiming to have reason to believe that there were miscast ballots. The request of the Socialists has the signature of the SP Parliamentary Group, Gramoz Ruçi.

Being unable to send these questions directly to the Commission, since SP does not have the necessary competences for such steps, the questions of SP were attached to those of the General Secretary of the European Council, Torbjon Jagland.

These questions regard the legal safety of the process that was held after May 14th, when the candidate Edi Rama was declared winner with 10 votes ahead of the rival Lulzim Basha.

1-How would miscast ballots be treated by CEC?
2-Did CEC have the competences to reassess the miscast votes and compile a new tabulation, by changing the result.
3-Are we facing an invalidation of the elections, since the tabulation of CEC has more ballots than the total number of voters?
4-Were May 8th elections free and honest, in full accordance with the international standards?

These are the questions for which the Socialist Party will ask the opinion of this Commission. This is the first time that the Commission of Venice will analyze the problematic claimed by the Socialist Party for May 8th elections, making it the first case when local elections will receive a specialized opinion for this case, maybe for ending once and for all the disputes for certifying or opposing CEC actions.
