College rejects CEC again

Election College approved both Socialist Party complaints regarding ballot papers.

The first case to be treated was about the Central Election Commission decision for aligning in the ballot paper the coalition of the Democratic Party before the coalition of the socialist party.

After hearing both parties, the College approved the arguments of the Socialist Party. The socialists say that the right alphabetical order was for the Socialist Party coalition to be aligned first, since the Albanian grammar does not take in account the first letter of definite or indefinite articles.

The Alliance for the Future, since “Future” in Albanian starts with “A”, should be aligned before the “Alliance for the Citizens”, since “citizen” in Albanian starts with “q”.

The second matter of discussion was the one about the ballot paper for the Tirana Mayor candidate. The socialist party requested that below the name of the coalition, there should be also the initials of the left centered parties of the Socialist coalition.

CEC argued that the initials of right centered parties of the Democratic Party coalition have been written because the coalition itself has been registered as such at CEC.

However, the Electoral College approved the argument of the Socialist Party, demanding CEC to approve the ballot papers that contain also the initials of the left centered parties.

These two decisions of the College regarding the content of the ballot paper are preceded by another decision that was given this Saturday, about the technical size of the ballot paper.

The three changes that CEC has to correct before the elections represent a time relating challenge for the production of the ballot boxes.

CEC held a meeting this Monday evening for reconsidering the entire problematic of the ballot papers, after the decisions of the Electoral College.
