CEC continues opening ballot boxes

The Central Election Commission continued today the counting process for votes cast in wrong ballot boxes.

Yesterday they continued until the late hours of night, finishing 23 ballot boxes, but recounted only 22 of them. One of the votes resulted with security code problems. The evaluation of the votes in 22 ballot boxes gave 46 votes for the candidate Basha and 15 votes for the candidate Rama. Today, seven boxes were opened until 14:15, finding five votes for Basha and four for Rama.

At the end, after calculating the final ballot box of the Municipal Unit 5, the candidate Basha resulted winner with 24 votes ahead. 33 boxes remain to be evaluated, and today’s meeting has had strong debates for the legitimacy of this procedure.

According to the minority members of the Central Election Commission, every regulation of this kind demands a normative act approved by the Central Election Commission with five member votes or more. This is what the Election Code also provides. Furthermore, the act approved in principle has no given order.

SP representatives at the Central Election Commission have asked to receive the normative act. But the Chairman Ristani argued that this is an interim decision, and after evaluating all votes, there will be a full official decision.
