Jennifer Brush, Director of the Office of South Central European Affairs at the U.S. Department of State clearly stated:
“Despite the fact that the pro-American spirit in Albania is in the highest levels, this doesn’t mean that the Albanians should turn their eyes to US for every interior problem.”
According to the US high diplomat, the Albanians must concentrate on the recommendations of the European Union.
“We are happy to support Albania, but we cannot solve your problems here. Albania cannot become the 53rd state of USA. This is not possible. This is not the future of Albania. The future of your country is to join the European family. We cooperate with the European Union, we have a partnership relation with them, but EU is the leader in this region and this will not change. Your priority as students and professors of different universities, and also the role of the politicians, is to implement the recommendations of the European Union by following the best possible ways in order to realize your European aspirations”, the US Diplomat declared.
Mrs. Brush, an expert of the Balkan region, in her lecture with Political Science students also mentioned the current situation in Albania.
She was careful to praise Albania’s role in NATO, but she also mentioned one of most delicate issues of the Albanian political actuality: the local elections.
