In a press conference, the Prime Minister Sali Berisha addressed a
series of accusations to the Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, and his
“sergeants”, as he called his supporters, of trying to block the
electoral system.

Berisha considered as unacceptable the threats addressed to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, emphasizing that law will act against everyone who infringes it.

“He physically threatened the CEC Chairman, making plans for attacking and burning the CEC building down, with the materials inside. I am here today to guarantee that the government is one: law, law and only law. The rule of law and only the rule of law. I guarantee that any act of violence will face the force of law”, Berisha declared, addressing a direct message to Rama.

“I warn Mr. Rama and those who have planned to occupy CEC for personal interests, that the same law that guarantees freedom for the citizens’ rights, the same law guarantees security for this country’s institutions”, Berisha warned, appealing the citizens to not undertake blind actions against the institutions.

The Prime Minister has furtherly commented the visit cancellation of the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Tirana, underlying that this was a decision taken by Brussels.

“An important visit was postponed. The European leader was coming to address Albanians the friendliest messages. His decision was not advised by me. Brussels decides by itself”, Berisha added.
