Berisha: Opposition to be part of the reforms

Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared that in the next two years, the
country will be able to reach the two main reforms of the country and he
invited the opposition to be part of them.

In the meeting of the Democratic Party Parliament Group, some hours before the new Parliamentary season started, the DP leader wished the opposition to join the electoral reforms.

Commenting the socialist decision for ending boycott, Berisha emphasized that the opposition is apparently getting off the road of solitude and entering a normal one.

“I guarantee the opposition that the majority, together with the opposition, is ready to turn into laws and decisions all EU recommendations, for the current electoral code, which is the most consensual in the history of our country”, Berisha declared.

Parliament, new season starts today

Today at 18:00, the Albanian Parliament will start the first session after the summer holidays.

The official web page notifies that today is expected to be approved the three-week schedule, from September 5th to September 23rd.

The Albanian President appealed all Albanian MPs with clear and strong tones for changing the institutional policy of our country.

The President reminded that their country is facing a political stalemate and is losing time in the efforts for a European future.

“The Albanian politics, now a NATO member, has lost two important years with a political stalemate connected with the parliamentary elections of 2009. The citizens themselves and the country have lost two years in their efforts for taking an EU membership invitation. The challenge today is clear: we have 12 political criteria from EU, all of them connected with the Albanian Parliament and its qualitative functions. On behalf of the citizens and the national conscience, I invite you to turn these points into Parliament priorities”, Topi declared.

Some days ago, the Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli sent a message to all MPs, especially to the opposition, inviting them to show good will for approving the laws and reforms that require consensus between parties.

Waiting for the opposition’s return in Parliament after the post-election boycott, the Speaker also expects them to not continue the voting boycott, which she considers as an anachronism with the past century, which has no sense when Albania needs to progress for European integration.

“The Majority MPs expect to work and vote together with the opposition for the important reforms of our country. Everything that brings the Albanians together should bring together even us through the Parliament vote. Albania is European, and the Albanians must be part of the EU. The EU Integration is not right or left centered. The EU Integration is our common national goal, and no one can trade with that. This time is now, and it is urgent”, Topalli declared.
