Albanian policemen, the “poorest”

Police wages in Albania are the lowest in the entire Balkan region, and
nothing compared to Western countries. The head of Police Union, Sadedin
Fishta compared it with Kosovo police wages, which has just been
created. The minimal wage of a Kosovo policeman is 430 EUR, while in
Albania it is 233 EUR, which shows a very high difference.

The head of the Police Union says that the 33,000 ALL payment does not provide even the minimal living conditions. He also notes that many police agents have quitted right after starting their duty. With this wage, patrolling police, who are the first to face the citizens, will never have an increasing performance if they will not be able to guarantee even their minimal life requirements.

But the EU Union, after a long-term assistance given to the Albanian police, expects a same performance with their police agents, which is impossible with this wage. Many policemen of this level are arrested by their colleagues on passive corruption charges.

If this wasn’t enough, the payment for a police agent has more taxes than any other employee of the Albanian public administration. Although everyone expects the Albanian police to have a similar performance to EU conditions, first we must take in consideration the 33,000 ALL monthly wage.
