Albania’s President, Bamir Topi, expressed his condolences for the passing away of World Baba of Bektashi Order of Dervishes, dede Hajji Baba Reshat Bardhi.

On his message, published on the President’s official web page, the Head of the State emphasizes that “the example of this man with extraordinary human and spiritual virtues, of this devoted religious leader, who has given his precious and generous contribution not only to Bektashi religion, but also to the consolidation and restoration of democracy in Albania, obliges us all to honor and respect his life and work”.

“Dede Hajji Baba Reshat Bardhi belongs to that unforgettable generation of patriots, who opposed the communist dictatorship through the spiritual force, through faith for the Omnipotent and love for the Albanians. He was not only a special person, an altruist and inspiring religious leader, but also a real Albanian, who through all his life lived and died fighting and trying on the behalf of the sublime ideals of religion, freedom, democracy and prosperity”, says the message of the Albanian President.

Prime Minister Sali Berisha said that he is “extremely sad, together with all Albanians, for the death of the spiritual leader of the Albanian and world Bektashi Order.

“Albania and Albanians saw at the World Bektashi Baba a great symbol of benevolence, peace, sympathy and devotion to human and heavenly virtues. After the fall of the communist dictatorship, Baba Reshat Bardhi reconstructed very quickly the Bektashi values that the barbarian regime had destroyed. He passed away today, leaving behind his acts of inspiration for sympathy, peace, tolerance and harmony.”  On this occasion, Prime Minister Berisha expressed his sincere condolences to the World Bektashi Headquarters and all Bektashi devotees. Prime Minister Berisha “prays with them that his spirit may find the eternal peace.”

Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, considers the passing away of Dede Hajji Baba Reshat Bardhi as “the tragic loss of a man with extraordinary virtues and contributions for the restoration of religion in Albania, and for the determinate promotion of tolerance and religious harmony in Albania”.

“Baba Reshati was one of those Albanians who didn’t lose his love of God and for his country even under the suppression and sufferings of the previous regime; one of those people who didn’t allow that the sufferings and suppression of that regime might weaken his tolerance and devotion to the people. This is why, on these sad moments for all Albanians, we honor this great man that dedicated all his energies to the promotion of spiritual ideals and religious harmony for the Albanians”, says the message on the official web page of Socialist Party.
