The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said that the Albanian Prime Minister and Interior Minister were told by Agron Xhafaj about the identity of “Witness X”, but they did everything possible to lure and compromise him before he gave this confession.
His name is Albert Veliu, 51, and he says the reason why he did this was that Xhafaj abandoned him in 2005, according to Veliu, when he was serving a prison sentence in Italy, in 2005.
He says that the audio recording didn’t come from him. He was staying at his son’s bar when he saw media talk about this. He even says Agron Xhafaj could have other footage.
“My name is Albert Veliu, 51. I have worked my whole life on sea vessels. From 2000 to 20002 I was in Italy with Agron Xhafaj’s group. I sold cocaine in Italy”, he says.
He says in 2005 he was caught in Pescara with 12 kg of cocaine and served a prison sentence. During this time, Agron Xhafaj didn’t send him a single letter. “When I left prison and I returned to Albania he offered me a job for my son, as a waiter”, he says.
He says that Agron rules in Vlora, while the “Ermal” mentioned in the audio is a powerboat driver who says he didn’t fear police because his roads were open.
