Waste categorization

According to the Minister of Environment, many big municipalities have been chosen for the implementation of this project, for dividing the waste materials in three baskets by 2015.

“25% of Albania’s wastes must be recycled by 2018, and on the same year, plastic, metal, paper and glass should be divided in different bins”, declared Vladimir Bezhani, director of waste planning at the Ministry.

The Ministry has also suggested that private houses should create their own waste collection places, by implementing the international standards.

“The owners of private houses with garden could dig a hole and collect all organic wastes there, and create the necessary humidity. This can be realized through awareness campaigns. We have selected some municipalities for this, such as Tirana, Lezha, Fier, Kucova and Bushat commune”, Bezhani declared.

The Ministry of Environment declared the cleaning fees in some municipalities will increase, since it is currently very low.

Meanwhile, the quantity of materials that are imported from abroad will be reduced, because the recycling companies must take most of the wastes from Albania.
