In end of 2020 is closing one of the most debated concessions, that of the technical check of cars authorized for road circulation.

For years this concession has caused high costs and reports of corruption schemes, in conditions when the private company SGS Albania was the only one that provided this mandatory service to Albanian drivers.

From January 1 next year, the technical control of road vehicles will be transferred to the General Directorate of Road Transport.

The decision was made official by Prime Minister Edi Rama through a post on his Facebook profile, who announced that after the transfer to the state there will be relief measures for about 630 thousand vehicles.

He said that the drivers of new 0 km vehicles, will not need the test for the first 3 years, while for used vehicles the term of this service will be extended to once in two years, from once a year that is currently performed.

There will also be facilities for taxis, driving schools and means of transport of goods and passengers that starting from January 1, 2021 will perform this service once a year, from once in every 6 months that was performed until now.

Regarding tariffs, Prime Minister Rama has stated that there will be no increases.
