The United States have greeted the meeting of the Albanian and Serbian Prime Ministers.
“Congratulations to both governments for this historic visit. The United States congratulate the Albanian and Serbian Prime Ministers for the first official visit of an Albanian Prime Minister in Belgrade for the past 68 years. We welcome the mutual commitment of these leaders for opening a new chapter of friendship and cooperation between both countries”, declared the Spokesperson for the White House, Jen Psaki.
The media kept talking for several days about this visit. The general feeling was that despite the promise to leave the differences behind and focus on the joint desire to get closer to the European block, the melting of ices didn’t last longer than in the press conference.
What spark the nervous reactions was the mentioning of Kosovo. Edi Rama’s visit was seen as a special event for the fact that there will be no stable peace in Balkan without normalizing the relations between Albanians and Serbs.
Although the visit reflected the progress that has been reached in the past two decades, the public disagreement showed once again how deep the differences are.
