Ulez HPP employees protest

The protesters demanded for the privatization to stop immediately, since the HPP feeds more than 800 residents of Mat and surrounding areas.

“This place was built with the blood of Ndre Elezi, Ndrec Gjergji, Etem Uka, Gjon Nika and 7-8 others who have died to build this hydropower plant, and it cannot be sold like that”, one of the workers declared.

Another mentioned that he contributed as a member of the Democratic Party, and now his job was in danger.

“As one of the contributing Democratic Party members, I appeal Mr.Berisha to think carefully because we will protect this hydropower plant with blood”, he declared.

The Socialist MP of this area, Qemal Minxhozi, supported the protesting workers and asked the government to stop corruptive privatizations.

“You cannot fill the state’s budget with the sweat and contribution of these people. The government must find other resources to face the crisis. These hydropower plants can bring back sale money in just five years”, Minxhozi declared.

Earlier the week, the government declared the Turkish company “Kurum” as winner of the tender, after they offered 109.5 million EUR.

The Socialist Party asked the Tirana Prosecution to investigate the government’s decision.
