UEFA and FIFA against Berisha

Could Albania and Kosovo have a common football league? The idea is
good, but the declaration made by Prime Minister Berisha one day ago and
that comes after the ones made by the Red and Black Fans, the Red and
Black Alliance and the Socialist party to create a Pan-Albanian Football
League, might remain just a desire.

World’s biggest football organizations, UEFA and FIFA are the ones that break the party and make it almost impossible. Article 5.1 at UEFA’s statute is open for all national football associations in Europe, based on a country that is known by the US as an independent state and who are responsible for organizing and implementing football matters in their countries”.

Kosovo has more than 80 international recognitions, but has not become a UN member yet and not acceptedn in the UEFA and FIFA, due to article 10 on FIFA’s statute which says that every federation that manages football in one country can become a FIFA member if the country is independent and recognized by the international community. Membership is allowed only of the federation is part of a confederation, in this case the UEFA.

This is a chain process and to have a common league Kosovo must be first recognized by UEFA and FIFA, only after Kosovo becomes a UN member.

This hasn’t happened so far, although there are no doubts that in the future Kosovo will not only be part of the UN, but also of the EU.

One year ago FIFA rejected the idea of the Albanian Football Federation to pass some Kosovo teams in the Albanian Superleague, saying that FIFA members cannot play with clubs that are not part of the FIFA.

A few months after, the FIFA executive committee rejected the Kosovo’s national team request to play friendly matches with countries that have recognized its independence.
