Trouble for Bank of Albania

03/09/2014 00:00

Ardian Fullani, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, met with the Chief
of the Supreme State Audit this Wednesday. Sources from the SSA told Top
Channel that the meeting was routine, but the developments of the
recent days between the Bank of Albania, the Prosecution General and the
SSA don’t make this meeting so much of a routine.

The cause of this meeting might be a request that the Prosecution made to the Bank of Albania for another investigation. This investigation is about a report of the SSA, which verifies a series of violations by the Bank’s financial operations in the past years, mentioned recently on the “Shqip” newspaper.

This article mentioned the way how the “Dajti Hotel” was sold, and changes in the renting process of some premises.

In these conditions, the Prosecution says that they have opened the investigation after verifying these evidence. They asked the Police to have the report of the SSA, which has refused to file it with the argument that the report had been sent to the Bank of Albania.

In this situation, the Tirana Prosecution sent another request to the Bank about the report, but hasn’t received any answer.

The investigations for this case are led by the Prosecutor of the Tirana Task Force, Ndini Tavani, who is verifying the suspicions about tender abuses.

The most interesting episode that was mentioned frequently by the past opposition, is the destiny of the Dajti hotel that was sold to the Bank of Tirana for 30 million EUR, an operation that might have caused a considerable economic damage to our country.

“We have collected evidence, have administered materials from the Public Procurement Agency, since there are suspicions that the sale has been realized without a tender”, Prosecutors declared.
