Besides the weak road infrastructure, Albania also faces a poor driving
culture. Official figures show that 74% of the accidents were caused
because of mistakes made by drivers, 22% because of motorcycle/ bicycle
riders and pedestrians. The rest of the fatal accidents is due to
infrastructure.

Most of the accidents caused are often mostly due to excessive speed and alcohol. Until three to four years ago it was because of alcohol”, says Flamur Mullisi, specialist of accidents at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

There have been 270 fatal accidents in Albania during 2015. The figure is lower than in 2010, when fatal accidents were 378. All specialists agree that more awareness campaigns are needed for prevention.
