The well known Albanian journalist, Sokol Balla, promoted his third book, which this time is a study on the freedom of speech.
The book titled “Freedom of Speech, a European Challenge” is the book with which the author took the title Master of Arts in the international journalism at the Cardiff University, Wales, Britain. The book was presented at the hall of the European University of Tirana, in presence of colleagues, friends, politicians, ambassadors and well known personalities.
Henri Cili, as the publisher of this book, declares that it is a contribution in the debate of the freedom of speech in Albania.
“After finishing his studies, Sokol Balla has summarized the freedom of speech as a European challenge in this book”, Cili declared.
The British Ambassador in Tirana declared that the book is a contribution to the debate about the role of the media in a transitional democracy.
“In a new transitional democracy, the role of the media is decisive. The analyze and the reflection in the role it is playing, and why it is playing that role, are very important. This book is a contribution for this debate. I hope it will stimulate the debate even more. This is not a matter that belongs only to the media and the politicians, as it didn’t belong only to the right or left centered parties. It is a matter of discussion among all Albanians and wider, in the media community throughout the world”, the UK Ambassador Fiona McIlwham declared.
The author, Sokol Balla, says:
“I have dedicated this book to one of my children. I would like my children to grow in a free country, and a country cannot be free without the freedom of speech.
The book was published with the support that the author received from the European University of Tirana, the Forum of the Free Speech and the Soros Foundation.
The author has summarized the message of this book through these words:
“The freedom of speech is seen as a European challenge. There are critics from the international reports for the freedom of speech in Albania, and I chose the promotion in this time when the freedom of speech in Albania is more complicated than ever”.
