Thaci meets US Vice President at White House, visits US military cemetery

The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, was received this Friday at the
White House, in Washington, by the US Vice President Michael Pence.

Thaci expressed the gratitude of the Kosovo people for the partnership and friendship with the USA.

“Our path towards freedom, independence and state-forming was done together with the USA. We are on the process of bringing to life the aspirations for Kosovo’s EU and NATO accession. The US leadership is irreplaceable for this”, Thaci declared.

The President underlined that Kosovo has turned into a factor of peace and stability in Balkan through reforms and by reinforcing its international position.

Thaci informed Vice President Pence with the process for transforming the Kosovo Security Forces into an Armed Forces, in full coordination with the USA and other NATO strategic partners.

“We are working for an all-inclusive process with full consensus, in order to transform the Special Forces to an army”, he added. The President underlined that the Kosovo army will be multi-ethnic and serving to all citizens.

In this meeting, Thaci and Pence talked about the final phase of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Thaci asked the USA to be involved in the process, directly, in order to help reach a final agreement that would be useful to both sides.

Thaci also declared that Kosovo will continue fight against terrorism in close cooperation with the USA and other partners.

During the day, the President of Kosovo placed flowers at the Arlington military ceremony, and said that returning to this place is always an emotional moment of reflection.

“Hundreds and thousands of US soldiers have redefined through their sacrifice the love for freedom, for fatherland, and turned it into inspiration for the entire world”, Thaci declared, adding that the people of Kosovo fought for the same values, that’s why they will never forget the sacrifice of US soldiers for the liberation of Kosovo and guarantee peace in the world.
