The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, returned from the Berlin Summit and held a press release in Kosovo, in which he said that the peace in the region is actually fragile, and that Kosovo is suffering from this situation, especially for the visa liberalization, a promise that the EU had given if Kosovo would realize the demarcation with Montenegro, which Kosovo delivered, but the EU failed to keep its promise.
Thaci appreciated the discussion organized by Merkel and Macron for Western Balkan, a region that he says is still fragile because several EU nations have still not recognized the independence of Kosovo, declared since 2008.
He said that Kosovo finds it odd that the EU is not reacting to Serbia’s aggressive actions: “The EU has been silent to the anti-European behavior of Serbia towards Kosovo. Oddly, this hasn’t blocked their European perspective”, Thaci said.
Thaci said that the European Union has lied to Kosovo when they asked the ratification of the demarcation with Montenegro as a condition for removing the visa regime: “Unfortunately, it was a deceiving promise”, Thaci said.
