Terrorist acts, Minxhozi: “Debates, very negative. Nishani is parapolitical”

Skender Minxhozi, Chief Editor of the “Java” magazine, was invited in
Top Channel’s today’s main news edition to speak about the terrorist
acts that took place in Tirana, threatening the family of the Minister
of Interior, and the reaction of the Albanian President, Bujar Nishani.

Ilir Paço: This week had terrorist acts against the family of the Interior Minister that now seem to have passed in second plan, since other political debates are prevailing on the news.

Skënder Minxhozi: I would correct you, if you allow me, because the debates didn’t come after the happening. As always, they went along with it, like the debates with the floods. A very negative phenomenon that brings to light a very complex problematic of the Albanian policy, that of prejudging everything while everything is still on the process. What happened with Tahiri and his family is something to be openly condemned. You published solidarity messages from European MPs and the Italian Interior Minister, who supported our Minister. It is a pity when you compare these foreign messages to the reaction of the Albanian politicians. The opposition couldn’t find a short, formal message or phone call for supporting the Minister. If he gets support from Rome, there is no reason why Basha shouldn’t do it. It would be a gesture that would reduce tensions, but we often confuse solidarity moments with debate moments, by ruining both of them.

Ilir Paço: The opposition says that the current situation is a consequence of the involvement of the police and the minister with the crime. The majority and some foreign embassies are strongly condemning the attacks. Do you think that these debates help the crime indirectly, as officials from the majority are stating?

Skënder Minxhozi: It is time for the opposition to prove what they say. This goes for any opposition. They need to offer evidence for what they say about their political opponents, especially when they are high-rank officials. Those who make accusations should also have responsibilities. Slander is decriminalized in the Albanian Parliament. This privilege has been abused for a long time. The opposition must show evidence that the Minister or other officials are implicated with the crime, or openly tell that this is only their propaganda.

Ilir Paço: Yesterday there was another conflict, between the President and the Government.

Skënder Minxhozi: It is a pity that the President entered this debate not with any explosive cause, but for a really low cause, for property reasons. He was called by the media and opposition representatives about the demolishing of a church in Elbasan. Nishani should have made moral remarks kin another time, not now Because the weight of what the President said, with the delicate and personal nature of this moment, shows that it is time for the President to find a new expressive formula when speaking to the media about the government. If the government has threatened his competences, or if they are threatening to take his institution, he should keep calm because of the post that he has. But it appears that this President can make only parapolitical declarations, because I fear he is a parapolitical head of state. He doesn’t obey to the rules of politics and protocol.
