The Supreme State Audit clashed with the Bank of Albania and asked them
to cancel the verdict that charges the 713 million ALL to the Albanian
citizens.
The Bank of Albania has considered the entire stolen amount as loss, an action that passes the cost to the Albanian taxpayers. In a recent audit report, the Supreme State Audit say this is irregular and the Bank of Albania should charge the people who have been sentenced for the theft for the damage. Only after these steps fail, it can be considered as loss, according to the SSA.
Top Channel has learned that the two institutions had a long debate about this, with the Bank of Albania saying that considering that amount as loss was also suggested by the IMF, but they haven’t provided any documents to the SSA to sustain this.
This theft was one of the biggest financial scandals in the country’s history. It was discovered on July and caused the arrest of dozens of Bank of Albania employees.
