The head of the SPAK special prosecutor’s office, Altin Dumani, said today before the Parliamentary Committee on Laws for the Investigation and Punishment of Corruption, that in 2022, in most of the investigations wiretapping was requested, in cases investigated for corruption, with 69 criminal proceedings.

Like his predecessor Arben Kraja, Dumani also announced sensational arrests.

Dumani: “The special prosecutor’s office will prosecute and charge high-level officials or former officials who have violated the law.

What I want to say with conviction is that there is no immunity from criminal prosecution as far as the Special Prosecutor’s Office is concerned.”

The head of SPAK emphasized that there is a legal framework that guarantees complete independence of his institution and that “he has not felt the pressure from the political parties”.

But MP Fatmir Xhafaj, one of the founders of the justice reform and the establishment of SPAK, told Dumani that “the efficiency in the investigation is far from the expected standards”.

Fatimir Xhafaj: “There is a need to have more focus on priority issues, mainly on corruption at high levels, people who have held or are holding democracy, the rule of law, economic development hostage.

SPAK was created for this, but concrete evidence is needed not only to cut branches but also rotten trunks in this country.”

79 proceedings have been registered for organized crime, said the SPAK head, while the value of confiscated assets is over 100 million euros. Asked by the democrat MP Gazment Bardhi about the investigations related to corruption in the May 14 elections, the head of SPAK stated that there are 20 criminal proceedings under way.
