The well-known Albanian soprano, Nina Mula, died this Thursday at 80.

Mrs. Mula had been fighting for a long time with a severe disease. The funeral will be held this Friday at the National Theater of Opera and Ballet.

The talented soprano was born in Russia, but she never thought that she would become famous in a small remote country like Albania. Nina Mula was born in 23 November 1931, and she met the Albanian student, Avni Mula, at the Moscow Conservatory, whom she fell in love with and followed in Albania.

Her talent stood out clearly and Nina Mula became a soloist at the Theater of Opera and Ballet, where she worked until 1976.

Six months after coming entering the TOB, Nina performed Tchaikovsky’s “Yolanda”. This was the show that affirmed her talent, and she continued with other important roles till the mid ‘70s. In 1958, together with her husband Avni Mula, Nina performed Rosina from the “Barber of Seville”, then the “Spring” of Tish Daia.

Her unforgettable roles are “Yevgeniy Onegin”, “Madame Butterfly”, “Figgaro’s Wedding”, and then “Carmen”. Some years later she played “Mrika”, of Jakova, and Donika in “Skenderbeu”.

One month ago, for her 80th anniversary, the National Theater of Opera and Ballet organized a ceremony filled with memories and performances of her roles. Nina Mula was honored with many awards, medals and titles, such as “Naim Frasheri Class II”, “Artist of Merits”, the First Prize at the “Romance Festival” and “Great Master of Work”.

President: The Albanian scene lost a great artist

The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, sent a message to the Mula family, saying that together with their spiritual loss, the Albanian scene lost a talent that was known for the originality, artistic temperament, for being a direct, sincere and loving person.

The Albanian Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, sent a message to the family:

“Albania lost today the muse of “Waltz of Happiness”, the great artist that was a pride for Albania. The Albanian art lost the soprano with a rare voice, a voice that is immortal and that will be always remembered with admiration.”
