Despite the oposition of the President and that of the deputies from the ‘new opposition’, the Parliamentary Committee on Economy has again approved the law on National Taxes ‘returned for reconsideration’, which provides for the abolition of the mining tax for 3 years in a row.
Representatives of the President had asked the deputies of the commission to consider the tax exemption for only 1 year, something that has not received their approval.
The decision rejects the president’s arguments that the law is clientelistic and favors a close group of businesses.
Government officials say the exemption will help the sector’s recovery.
