There are 1.5 million individuals in Albania who have active bank accounts, but 62% of the money (5 billion EUR) is owned by 6% of them.
These are the persons who have a bank account higher than 2.5 million ALL.
According to the Agency of Deposit Insurance, 94% of the other bank clients have 3 billion EUR, or under 2.5 million ALL. This is the sum guaranteed by the state if any bank goes bankrupt.
“The maximal insurance level in the banking system is 2.5 million ALL. It is enough, taking into consideration the characteristics of our country and the international standards”, said Genci Mamani, Director of the Deposit Insurance Agency.
The Agency says that the banking system is safe and the insurance scheme guarantees deposits in ALL and foreign currency as well.
