The Socialist Movement for Integration, main ally of the ruling party,
opposed the education reform, one of the biggest reforms applied by the
Socialist Party government led by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

SMI’s Kejdi Mehmetaj voted against the law in today’s Media Commission meeting, which was boycotted by the opposition.

Mehmetaj said the law was unnecessary and it would cause confusion if passed without being discussed with groups of interest.

The Vlore MP, Fatmir Toci, opposed Mehmetaj’s arguments while Socialists voted in favor of the professional education reform.

This reform foresees the creation of a National Employment Agency which turns professional schools into multi-functional centers for new professions that have a high demand in the job market.
