Slovenian Foreign Minister meets Bushati, expresses support for EU accession negotiations

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, received the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Slovenia, Miro Cerar, in an official visit in Tirana.

Bushati valued Slovenia’s support to Albania for opening the negotiations with the EU in June 2019. According to Bushati, this support comes as a result of the concrete reforms undertaken by the Albanian government.

The Minister underlined that Slovenia’s proactive and lobbying role that helped Albania receive the EU candidate country would be more than welcome for the EU accession negotiations as well.

Bushati thanked his Slovenian counterpart for their support in the OSCE leadership of 2020. He expressed his optimism for coordinating joint actions in securing Albania’s accession as a temporary member of the UN Security Council, from 2022 to 2023.

The Slovenian Minister noted Albania’s role as a factor of stability and underlined the need for increasing the economic and political cooperation.
