The Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, said in an interview for
“Blic” that the division of Kosovo is the best way to end enmities
between Albanians and Serbs.
“A division would resolve the conflict that goes on for decades regarding the former Serbian region made of almost only Albanians”, Dacic wrote.
Dacic argues his theory with the fact that there is a compact Serbian minority in Kosovo, but this also has a side effect, according to him.
“Based on former ideas about the division, Northern Kosovo can join Serbia. But after this, Albanians would have claims about 100.000 Albanains in southern Serbia who could join Kosovo”, Dacic said.
The Serbian Foreign Minister says he isaware that Kosovo has been independent for the past nine years, and recognized by 110 states.
He explains that Kosovo has many Serbian medieval monasteries and battlefields, that’s why Belgrade has wanted to keep this region.
“The historic Serbian monasteries in Kosovo, which are protected by UNESCO as part of the world heritage, could receive a special status of autonomy in case of division”, Dacic wrote.
