Saranda, one of the most important tourism destinations in Albania will
open the upcoming tourist year with the challenge of having a damaged
sewage water canalization network that discharges polluted waters in the
beautiful Ionian beaches.
The Saranda Municipality delcared that they will give an emergency solution to some of the most problematic points, by blocking them, but the Head of Services, Agron Tepelena, declared that a final solution will be given through an investment of the World Bank and the Albanian government, which is expected to start on September.
The investment for the construction of the sewage water implant started in 2006 and ended one year ago, with the construction of six filtering in a big area in Cuka, outside Saranda.
The 3.2 million EUR investments cannot be used without the construction of another pressure line and without the canalization network that will deviate he polluted waters of the town to this implant. Both investments cost 800.000 EUR and will be supported on autumn by the World Bank and the Albanian government.
The Albanian government must cover a 3.2 kilometer long line. Specialists at the Saranda Municipality say that they are negotiating for covering at least the next season through this investment.
Saranda has a destroyed sewerage canalization network. The damages brought the intervention of the sewage waters to the drinking water pipes. The problem had a major cost, but the specialists say that the most critical points are being rehabilitated with Municipality’s funds.
