Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzy, described it as a violation the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the debate taking place today at the UN Security Council in New York.

“This violation creates danger”, said the Russian representative Nebenzy, who asked the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was leading the session, not to give the right of speech to the President of Ukraine.

Nebenzy: There is a violation here because the president’s own trip to come here is seen as a privilege, as during the previous session the Ukrainian delegation participated by an online connection.

“The (Ukrainian) president’s arrival today is in violation of the rules. Non-member countries do not speak before member countries.”

Pm Rama: You stop the war and Zelensky will not hold his word.

The Ambassador of Russia asked the President of the Security Council, Rama not to speak in the capacity of the Prime Minister of Albania:

“I draw your attention to the fact that today you are speaking in the capacity of the chairman of the Security Council, not as the Albanian prime minister”.

Further on Rama emphasized that this is not an action of the Albanian presidency but in full accordance with the policies of the council.

Russian ambassador: You were in a hurry to say it was decided, on what basis do you give Zelensky the floor, on what basis do you invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia?

Rama: The invitation to Zelensky is a full confirmation of paragraph 33. Giving the floor to Zelensky will allow other members to respond to his comments. Also I wanted to assure my Russian colleagues that it is not an action of the Albanian presidency, but the continuation of the consolidated policy of the council. The OSCE plays an important role, that is why the OSCE representative is an Albanian from North Macedonia, if you were clear about what the problem is, I would like to help you.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for the first time since the beginning of the war, was today physically present at the UN General Assembly.
