Researcher Kabo: The fight against corruption is itself being corrupt in Albania

Professor Përparim Kalo says that corruption in Albania has affected the campaign against corruption.

In an interview for “Top Talk” on Top Channel, the anthropologist and researcher says that the high level of corruption in the country has led to the corruption of the ‘fight against corruption’ campaign, in a phenomenon that according to him, is currently happening in the country.

“I believe in the need and necessity of a justice reform. But my understanding of this reform is quite different from what its managers give it. Justice reform does not mean changing some structures and replacing them with some other structures. The judiciary was seized by a few hands and these changes we did not get where we expected it to go.

“This is because the people at the core of the reform are important, and if new people come but with the same mindset as the former, then there is no reform.”

Kabo says that “those who are reforming the judiciary do not even believe in the need for change and do not link these changes with the interests of the homeland.”

“If there is no moral virtue in the justice system, the professional virtue does not guarantee its success. And this is happening. Moral virtue has been trampled on and for that, the professional virtue is taken as a protective measure. There is an inner evil that comes from a long history of the past, when a wide mass of people pretend to change, but in fact do not change.

“Because change itself requires a confrontation with morality and represents challenges.

“If these things are not part of the character of the individual or society, then it will be walking like a crab, pretending to be moving forward, but in fact it is moving backwards or sideways.”

Even in state institutions, according to the anthropologist, it is allegedly being pretended  as if fighting corruption.

“But whether they have come out as clean, or proved the purity of someone who undergoes the vetting, they let us know that they are not honest in the status they have.

“Time is running out and the results are minimal,” adds Kabo.
