Ramush Haradinaj has been released on probation by the French court
today. This decision was taken two days after the Serbian Ministry of
Justice sent over an extradition request.
Serbia wants Haradinaj for war crime accusations that were not filed at the International Court of Hague, which has found Haradinaj not guilty, twice.
But Serbian officials say these accusations are about war crimes in Dukagjin. The final court trial has not been decided yet.
Many political parties and institutions in Kosovo called for an immediate liberation and the matter was discussed at the Kosovo Parliament for 11 hours, although the resolution for freeing him did not pass.
This is the second time Haradinaj faces such troubles, due to an arrest order released by Serbia in 2004. In June 2015, he was held by the Ljubjana aiport security, in Slovenia, while returning from an official visit in Berlin. But then he was released much earlier.
The Kosovo authorities have asked Interpol to not take in consideration Serbia’s arrest orders for Kosovo citizens, since this phenomenon has taken place often for former KLA leaders.
